I'm reading Oliphant's
Hester and really enjoying it. Hester is young, defiant and proud. When she attends a ball she wears her mother's pearls which are considered gorgeous by all, controversial by some... "The pearls were beautiful, more beautiful than any other ornament in the room ... She flung higher her young head, which was proud with life and a sense of power unknown."
Is this a book recommendation then?

I like the elegance of pearls. They are a quiet statement of character. It would be lovely to wear some pearls to a ball me thinks! x
ReplyDeleteOh I'd like to read it! Maybe next summer? I like the pearls. x
